About Kwest Korean Jindo dogs
Welcome to Kwest Korean Jindo Dogs
We are a small hobby kennel located in Southern California. Our primary goal is the preservation of the Korean Jindo Dog in the United States, and education about the breed. Our dogs exhibit in conformation shows, lure course, hunt vermin on the property, and take part in a number of other activities like nose work, rally obedience, and trick dog training along with working alongside our Alaskan Malamutes. Our very limited breeding program is focused on health, functional conformation, traditional temperament and drive, and breed type.
In 1996 I was looking for a dog. I wanted something that would complement the Malamutes by being protective and willing to bark when needed but not noisy. With a strong preference for the northern breed look. On a fateful April day I happened to be at an event where a rescue fair was taking place and across the building I spotted this medium size white dog who just "spoke" to me. When asked, the humane society said she was a Jindo, a breed I had never heard of before. Kiva came home with me that day, and was one of those turning points in life. She was exactly the dog I was looking for, and more.
Through Kiva I developed a love for the breed. I rescued and fostered Jindos from local SoCal shelters for many years. I also titled my Alaskan Malamutes in obedience, rally, and conformation, as well as working them in weight pulling, backpacking, and sledding/carting. The Jindos often came along for the ride and worked alongside the Malamutes in harness and backpack.
In 2012 I brought home my first purebred pedigreed Jindo, HoSu. She and her descendants have competed in conformation shows, earning AKC Open Show, UKC, and ARBA Best In Show Awards. They have also titled in Coursing Ability, Fast CAT, CGC, Trick Dog, Fit Dog, and Scentwork. I am one of the founding members of the Korean Jindo Dog Association of America.
